Trade is a large part of the game.
Only a few mineral types are found locally. You must trade with other areas to gain more mineral types. Refinery efficiency is based on the number of types of minerals used.
Each realm has their own brand of tradegoods. Each brand has a different value at foreign realms, with values being higher the more distant the realm.
Realms also produce luxuries that are in high demand at foreign stars.
There are also modules and components that reduce build times when used. There is a thriving trade in these as well.
